My Organic Baby 227g Cereal Product Withdrawal Update
Press Release
Toronto, ON (January 25, 2008) – My Organic Baby Inc., Canada’s first full nation wide line of organic baby food, is conducting a voluntary product recall of their My Organic Baby 227g Step A & B Cereals.
New packaging introduced last year has resulted in a shortened shelf life. The packaging used has created a change in the taste and aromatic profiles of the cereals and affected the product’s freshness.
My Organic Baby 227g Step A & Step B Cereal skus — Brown Rice (UPC 878427101019), Barley (UPC 878427101026), Oatmeal (UPC 878427101033) and Multigrain (UPC 878427101040) — with the expiry dates of April 2008 and June 2008 were pulled from store shelves on January 18. The products are distributed nationally.
“While conducting ongoing shelf life evaluations of the product, we discovered an unacceptable change in the sensory profile of the product,” said Darrell Chin, Director of Technical Services for My Organic Baby. “Since the current product no longer meets the high standards of My Organic Baby, we decided to withdraw all product from store shelves.”
My Organic Baby is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure all proper protocols are followed and assisting in the development of a consumer alert. Consumers that have these products should not use them and should contact the company for product replacement information.
“My Organic Baby sincerely apologizes for the situation and any concerns it may have caused,” said company spokesperson Diana Robinson. “We are currently working to swiftly correct the packaging problem and anticipate having new product back on store shelves shortly. For parents looking to temporarily replace the 227g cereals in their baby’s diet, we recommend they consider our On-the-Go Cereals as an alternative.”
Consumers looking for more information about the product withdrawal and replacement of product should visit the My Organic Baby web site at http://www.myorganicbaby.ca or call 1-877-308-BABY(2229) or e-mail info@myorganicbaby.ca.
