I had been in contact with Jessica all the time. She let me know how things were going with the pregnancy. I did see her a couple of times, but she still could not come to my house. My husband would not see her. He had no problem with me seeing her.
I had been working at a nursing home and had turned in my 2 week notice because I had found a better job. This was about the time the baby was due. I did tell them that if Jessica called me, I was gone. Well, on October 31, 2000, she called me and said her back hurt. i told her to call the doctor and go to the hospital. I was 350 miles away. I called work and told them I would not be in. (I never went back to the nursing home). It took me 2 1/2 hours to get there. I had an angel on my shoulder and the highway patrol didn't see me. LOL
I made it to the hospital at 10;30PM and Little David Charles was born at 11:30pm. He was my pumpkin baby. Baby's father was there and was a great help. One thing I need to add, He is Mexican, speaks very little English. Jessica did not speak Spanish when they met. She did take Spanish in high school, but flunked it. Now she could speak Spanish very fluently. She made a very good translator. Jessica was a very good mother. When she went back to work, she found a reliable babysitter. She kept the baby clean and well fed. Her husband did a good job with both of them. She would come home and stay at my parents house. David took his first steps at their house. He jabbered alot and one of the first words you could really understand was "grandpa" talking to my Dad. My Dad was so proud at this. When David was old enough to eat regular food, there wasn't much he wouldn't eat. My Dad was very proud of this fact also. Now I need to go back a bit. My Dad was also one who told me I was ruining Jessica's life by putting her in the out of home placements when she was growing up. But My parents did not offer to take her and let her live with them either.
So at holidays, if Jessica was at my parents, my husband would not be there. This really tore me up, but after she attacked him before, I was not going to push him.
In mid 2002, Jessica moved back to Davenport(hometown), and again lived with my sister. She was working and looking for an apartment. Later her husband was going to move here with her. So during this time, I got to see them more often.
The last time I saw them was in August 2002. We went to adventureland in Des Moines, Iowa. David really enjoyed himself. Kenny( my son) went with us. He really had fun then also. I am so glad I took plenty of pictures then. You will understand what I mean in my next chapter. I will leave this on a happy note.
