Kidneys are still damaged, however abit better than the last
Ultrasound. She will be getting one from now on every six months.
Being on three duretics is guilty party damaging the kidneys. But
if we decrease the medications, results would be more damage to the
lungs. Carbon dioxides levels are low telling him that her lungs
are still damaged also. So to combat the drugs hurting the kidneys
any further, increasing again the amount of potassium and sodium I
give her each day. The good news is the kidneys are growing. The
Nephrologist suspects that the kidneys should repair themselves by
between age 6 and 7. Of all the kids he has looked after in the
past with Down syndrome, only one did not make it, the kidneys never
recovered. He is very optimistic that Hope will continue to do
well, kidneys will recover and the damage to them will correct
itself. Both kidneys, one more than the other, still has gray areas
on them.
He also thinks that being off oxygen for only 14 months, she still
stands a risk of going back on oxygen if we decrease the meds to
fast. We don't want to compromise the lungs by doing this.
Can not win for losing. Sure is a balancing act with the six
medications, potassium and sodium with her kidneys and lungs.
Hope you all are doing very well. |
